Slow Burn - Self Portrait (Entry for The Archibald Prize 2023)
‘This self portrait explores the effects that trauma has on the human psyche.
Lauren considered joining the fire brigade however after speaking with both current and past fire fighters, she learned of the disturbing elements of the job and then deep emotional impact these can have on a person.
This portrait not only represents our brave, courageous, resilient and self-sacrificing emergency service professionals, but it also shines a warm light on anyone who is dealing with emotional trauma and who has exceeded their ability to cope.
This work asks of you to look deeper within yourself and others - who are we when we go home, take off our uniform and there is no-one to perform for?’
